Among the many announcements and first looks at upcoming films, The Little Mermaid was featured in D23’s first major panel yesterday, a two-hour animation set. Even though Scuttle wasn’t featured in the teaser, we now know who will be playing him with Ariel and Flounder in the live-action adaptation.
Like Beauty and the Beast and Aladdin before it, this remake is part of Disney’s initiative to reimagine its animation masterpieces in a live-action format.
The Little Mermaid is a musical fantasy film directed by Rob Marshall and written by David Magee, starring Halle Bailey as the titular mermaid. It is a live-action remake of the 1989 Walt Disney Pictures and Hans Christian Andersen animated classic of the same name.

In The Little Mermaid 2023, Who Will Voice Scuttle?
Awkwafina, an actor and comedian, will provide her voice for the part of Scuttle, as revealed by Forever Greek. The 2019 adaptation of The Little Mermaid features Awkwafina, who has been in films like Crazy Rich Asians and Shang-Chi: Legend of the Ten Rings.
Scuttle, the talking seagull, made his debut in the 1989 animated film as a male character voiced by Buddy Hackett. In the new adaptation, Scuttle will be played by a female seagull who befriends Ariel.

What Is The Release Date For The Little Mermaid?
The United States premiere of The Little Mermaid is set for May 26, 2023. Live-action filming took place in Sardinia, Italy, and Pinewood Studios in London, but was repeatedly halted due to schedule issues and delays caused by a global pandemic.
