Adieu, Gallagher! Shameless, the long-running drama/comedy, ended its 10-year run in April 2021, but the antics of the Gallagher family will never be forgotten.
Shameless, a Showtime series based on a British program of the same name, premiered that year. William H. Macy’s performance as patriarch Frank Gallagher anchored the cast. Frank’s six children were the primary source of income for him and his family as he battled alcoholism and dr*g addiction.
The Emmy-winning actor told Vanity Fair in August 2018 that the Gallaghers “live right on the edge of the law” and “have to skirt the law a lot to make it.”
“They’re one paycheck away from homelessness. And it’s a really interesting family to follow, to see what that’s really like. And we make light of it, and it’s sanitized a little bit, but the writers have been really good at, every once in a while, reminding you — this is serious s—t.”
The Chicago-based show was nominated for 15 Emmys over the course of its 11 seasons, eventually taking home four. Despite receiving six Emmy Award nominations for his role, Macy has yet to win an Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series. However, he has won three Screen Actors Guild Awards for his work on the show in 2015, 2017, and 2018.
The news that Emmy Rossum, the show’s other major star, was leaving after season 9 made headlines in August of 2018. “I know you will continue on without me, for now,” she said on Facebook. “There is much more Gallagher story to be told. I will always be rooting for my family. Try not to think of me as gone, just think of me as moving down the block.”
However, after the series finale aired in April 2021, Emma Kenney stated that “the set became more of a positive place” after Rossum left the show.
The former Conners star noted in an October 2021 episode of the “Call Her Daddy” podcast, “I remember pre her leaving, I’d go to set some days and I’d be very anxious having a scene with her because if she had a bad day, she made it a bad day for everybody.”
Kenney added that she still has “a lot of love” for the Phantom of the Opera star despite any animosity between them in the past. “I hope she finds her happiness,” she continued. Read on to find out what the cast of Shameless is up to now.
The Cast Of Shameless
William H. Macy
As reported by People, the cast of Shameless includes William H. Macy. The Oscar-nominated actor had roles in films like The Sessions, Cake, Room, and Blood Father during the course of Shameless. In addition, he directed the 2017 film The Layover. The Dropout, a series on Hulu, will feature him in 2022. Since 1997, the native of Miami has been married to Felicity Huffman.
Sophia and Georgia are the couple’s daughters. Their involvement in the college admissions scam made headlines in 2019. Macy was cleared of any wrongdoing, but Huffman went to pris0n for 11 days and did 250 hours of community service.
Emmy Rossum
Rossum played the role of Fiona Gallagher, the eldest of the Gallagher kids. The star of Mystic River, who left Shameless in 2018, has directed episodes of Modern Love and Animal Kingdom. She’ll play Angelyne, a Los Angeles media mogul, in a movie with the same name.
The Poseidon star gave birth to her first child, a daughter, with husband Sam Esmail in May 2021. In April of 2023, Rossum shared that she and her husband had secretly welcomed a boy.

As the story progressed, it became clear that Ian Gallagher, played by Monaghan, was not really Frank’s son. He was born in California and has appeared as a guest star on shows such as NCIS, Gotham, and Mercy Street. During that time, he was also featured prominently in films like Vampire Academy, The Giver, Mall, and The Year of Spectacular Men, not to mention the hit series Shameless. Fisher played Mickey Milkovich, Ian’s on-and-off-again boyfriend and future spouse. Like Kenney, the Canadian-born actor has guest-starred on The Conners. Justice League Action wasn’t his only TV appearance; he also popped up in Castle Rock and Fear the Walking Dead. He married Layla Alizada in 2017 and they have been together ever then.
