The Flash has finally been released to theaters after years of development problems and postponements. Although Ezra Miller’s Barry Allen made a brief appearance in Su*cide Squad and again in Batman v Superman in the form of security camera footage depicting Captain Boomerang’s capture, The Flash made his true debut when Batman recruited him in Justice League.

The Flash’s biggest talking points might not have anything to do with how it actually ends. When the mysterious Dark Flash, who earlier knocked Barry out of the Speed Force, appears, the two Barrys fight in the Speed Force bubble about the risks and futility of trying to change the past. The enemy is revealed to be an elderly Barry who has spent his entire life trying to alter history so that he might save his mother.
To prevent the main Barry from undoing his mother’s rescue, the Dark Flash tries to stab him, but young Barry leaps in front of the blade and is ki!!ed. Due to the fact that they are the same individual, this also results in the passing of “old” Barry.
To erase the events that ultimately saved his mother’s life, Barry travels back in time. She had forgotten to bring a can of tomatoes, so she had sent Barry’s dad to the store to get some, and in the meanwhile, he had given it to her. There, at his father’s most recent trial, it came out that Barry had once placed the tomatoes to a higher shelf, prompting his father to look up at a camera and providing Barry with an alibi. The charges against his dad are dropped.
Barry is outside and calls Bruce. The Bruce that shows up in the courts is not the Bruce that Barry knows at all. His mother’s de@th has been reinstated, but shifting the tomatoes to show his father’s alibi has changed the past. By the end of the movie, Barry has no idea where he is in time or what will happen next.
