Twitter has debuted a second promotional trailer for the highly anticipated anime, which features protagonist character Suletta Mercury gazing in wonder at the Asticassia School of Technology. Between scenes, the text “With a red spark burning in her pure heart, this girl walks step by step across a new universe” appears on screen, setting the stage for exciting new characters and Gundam fight introductions. It includes a sneak peek of “Shukufuku,” a song by the J-Pop great pair YOASOBI (Blessings). The release date for Shukufuku is set for November 9.

The Witch From Mercury Features the Franchise’s First Female Lead

When it comes to the Mobile Suit Gundam franchise, “The Witch From Mercury” introduces the first female protagonist. There were other female pilots during the show’s 43 seasons, but none of them ever played a key role. The events of Suletta’s story occur in an entirely new continuity, unrelated to any of the previous games in the series. In the new show, businesses have established a robust economic structure.

Auletta is a quiet girl from Mercury who moves to Asticassia to attend the prestigious Asticassia School of Technology. Benefit Group, which runs the academy, is a pioneer in the field of mobile suits. In the mobile suit Gundam Aerial, Suletta will play the role of pilot. Mercury, her home planet, is where the experimental Gundam Aerial was created.

There’s a talented group of people behind The Witch From Mercury. It will be directed by Hiroshi Kobayashi (Kiznaiver) and Ryô Andô (Food Wars! Shogeki No Soma). Ichiro Takeuchi, the author of Code Geass, is in charge of writing. Kanetake Ebikawa, who worked on Gundam Build Fighters, is just one of many industry veterans who have joined as mecha designers. Having won an original MS design contest as a teenager, Ebikawa is a remarkable addition to the team.

Yoasobi Collaborated With the Anime’s Writer

Fans of Gundam are thrilled to have YOASOBI sing the theme song to such a groundbreaking series. The pair’s prior anime-related music (Kaibutsu, used as the opening song in Beastars, and Yasashii Suisei, used as the closing song for Beastars’ second season) earned nominations for Best Opening Sequence and Best Ending Sequence, respectively, at the 2022 Crunchyroll Anime Awards. The Witch From Mercury’s “Shukufuku” theme is based on the novel Yurikago no Hoshi by the anime’s creator, Ichiro Takeuchi.

Singer-songwriter Ikura and Vocaloid producer Ayase make up YOASOBI, a super pair created by Sony Music Entertainment Japan. The group’s songs are based on novels featured on their label’s social media site Monogatari, whose slogan is “novel into music.” Before joining YOASOBI (which translates to “nightlife” in Japanese), both members had established and successful occupations. The group’s name is a play on the fact that both members have full-time jobs in addition to their collaborative efforts at night.
