The Argentine football great Diego Maradona will be represented in court by eight medical professionals who will be tried for criminal neglect in his death in a hospital bed following surgery.

Maradona passed away at age 60 after battling cocaine and alcohol addiction for decades and recovering from brain surgery for a blood clot.
Two weeks after having surgery, he was discovered dead in his bed at the rented house he had moved into after being released from the hospital in a posh part of Buenos Aires.
His death was ruled a heart attack.
Twenty medical specialists summoned by Argentina’s public prosecutor last year concluded that Maradona’s care was riddled with “deficiencies and abnormalities.”
The report concluded that the football player “would have had a better chance of life” if he had received care in a suitable hospital.

Caretakers were charged with negligent homicide by prosecutors who claimed the defendants had left him “to his fate.”

Neurosurgeon and family physician Leopoldo Luque, psychiatrist Agustina Cosachov, psychologist Carlos Diaz, medical coordinator Nancy Forlini, nursing coordinator Mariano Perroni, nurses Ricardo Almiron and Dahiana Madrid, and clinician Pedro Paglo Di Spagna are all accused in this case.
The accused are “the protagonists of an unprecedented, totally defective, and reckless hospitalization at home,” as stated by the prosecuting attorneys.
