While restoring a 1790s farm that her ancestors once owned but had to give up, Amy Schumer got the idea for her new Hulu dramedy Life & Beth. As Schumer explained to Entertainment Weekly in February, “While I was pregnant [in 2019], we were up there, and I had time to think and slow down and daydream.” “I began writing this story while visiting the location of my parent’s wedding. It all came crashing down on me in a matter of seconds. In my mind, it felt as if I had to get rid of it.”
When she created and portrayed the protagonist, a successful 39-year-old New York City wine distributor whose life takes a major turn, Schumer drew inspiration from her own experiences to create and play the character. There are some things that Beth does in the show that is based on real events in Schumer’s life, but the show is based on themes from her own. One of her episodes involves her flashing a number of young men. That’s exactly what happened to me as well. And then there’s Episode 9’s “dark moment.”
It is through reminiscing about her youth that Beth begins to understand how she came to be who she is today, as well as the person she wants to be in the future. In the end, Schumer explained, the show is about letting go of guilt and anxiety. It’s about letting go and trusting and figuring out how to be happy because of these early traumas, she said.
Hulu has yet to renew Life & Beth for a second season, but Schumer clearly has a wealth of other experiences to draw from—and she still has all her teen journals to jog her memory, if necessary.” The series is likely to return given the positive early reviews and Schumer’s first-look deal with Hulu. The Life & Beth Season 2 Premiere Date
For the first 10 episodes of Life & Beth, Hulu ordered them in July 2019, and production began in spring 2021. The show wrapped production on July 16, according to Schumer’s Instagram account. Eight months later, on March 18, 2022, the first episode of the new season aired. Life & Beth could return for a potential Season 2 as early as 2023, depending on decisions made in the background.

The Life & Beth Season 2 Cast
Life & Beth Season 1 also stars Michael Cera as John, Laura Benanti as Jane, Susannah Flood as Ann, and Violet Young as a young Beth. They are joined by other cast members such as Yamaneika Saunders and Kevin Kane as Kiana and Matt, respectively. Michael Rapaport also appears as Matt (Leonard). Hulu has yet to confirm any Season 2 casting, but all of the original cast members, as well as possible new additions and guest stars, are expected to return.
