Will CNN Change Its Daytime Programming To A Three-Anchor Lineup?
CNN Chairman Chris Licht announced on Wednesday that the Warner Bros. Discovery-owned network is developing a new design and style for its morning and afternoon news shows in an effort to be “more real.” The day will be split into two three-hour blocks, with the first starting at 9 a.m. Eastern after its newly redesigned morning program “CNN This Morning.” They will co-anchor from the network’s New York studios, where they reportedly have free reign to roam, with John Berman, Kate Bolduan, and Sara Sidner.
The “Inside Politics” program with political commentator John King continues to air at noon Eastern. With Brianna Keilar, Boris Sanchez, and Jim Sciutto serving as the hosts, the network will remain in Washington for the second block, which will begin at 1 p.m. Eastern. Victor Blackwell, who now anchors “CNN This Morning” in the afternoon on weekdays, will relocate to Atlanta to co-anchor “CNN This Morning” on the weekend with Amara Walker.
The adjustments, which are anticipated to be implemented in the upcoming months, were not launched on a specific day by CNN. Even if there are more viewers accessible in the evening, Licht thinks the daytime shows can improve the network’s reputation as the place to go for breaking news. Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-Bakersfield) was elected speaker of the House of Representatives after CNN utilized several anchors to cover the voting.
