Overview
Multiple board games are known as “checkers” or “draughts.” All of these titles have a lot in common. The other player’s pieces can be “jumped” over in any kind of checkers game.
The name “Checkers” comes from the English. These games are known as “draughts” in British English and other English-speaking countries.
The World Draughts Federation is in charge of enforcing the rules and organising tournaments.
History
The game of checkers has its origins in France, dating back to the 12th century. The Anglo-American version of checkers (which originated in France) and the Polish or continental version are the two most popular forms of the game.
An 8×8 chessboard with 12 pieces is used in the Anglo-American version. Each piece in the continental version (so-called because it is played on the continent of Europe) has a value of 20. In addition, different countries have their own versions.
How to Play
Most checkers games are two-player affairs. In this game, the players are situated at opposite ends of the playing field. Dark pieces are used by one player, while light pieces are used by a different player.
They each move their pieces one at a time. Players move their pieces diagonally across the board. If you jump over your opponent’s piece, then you remove that piece from play. It is imperative that you take a piece if you are able to do so.
English draughts
“Draughts” is the name given to the game by the British. An 8×8 chessboard is used for English draughts. Dark squares are the only ones used, and the light squares are never used.
Pieces. The pieces are both flat and round. It is common to refer to them as “men.” If they are red and white, they can be dark or light in colour.
Black and White are the names of the two factions. [2] The game is in Black’s favour. “Kings” and “plain” pieces are the only two types of pieces in the game.
++By placing one piece on top of another or perhaps flipping the man over if there are no taken pieces to use, kings are designated once the game has been completed (and sides of the pieces look slightly different).
This is where things get started. There are 12 pieces on the three rows closest to your side for each player to begin with. Players sit in the “King Row” when they are closest to each other. The darker the colour, the faster it goes.
What to do when you can’t move. There is only one way forward for the single pieces (the starting pieces). In other words, they can’t go back.
Both forward and backward motions are available to a player at any given time. To get to the next dark square, a piece can be moved diagonally forward.
As long as one player’s piece is aligned with another’s piece, the first player must “jump” that piece. Jumping over and over the opponent’s piece, the first player takes the other player’s piece off of the board.
Using one piece, a player can jump multiple times in a single turn, as long as each jump immediately leads to the next jump and in a straight line. It’s possible that a player will be given the option of picking which opponent piece he wants to jump over.
Then he has the option of picking which one to jump from. If you keep your hand on any piece while moving, you have the option of putting it back and moving a different piece.
Continental draughts
Polish or international draughts are sometimes referred to as such. The kings’ freedom of movement is a significant distinction.
It is possible to capture an opponent by jumping to any of the unoccupied squares immediately in front of the opponent’s king in international draughts (sometimes referred to as flying kings). The simple men can also go backwards and forwards at the same time.
