Wife Of Carl Lentz Learned About His Inappropriate Relationship With The Nanny On A Zoom Call

Carl Lentz, a former pastor at Hillsong who was known for standing at the pulpit of a huge famous church, has acknowledged that he cheated on his wife with their family nanny while he was in charge of the ministry that was situated in the United States.

Carl Lentz’s ex-wife says she found out about his inappropriate relationship with their nanny during a Zoom chat in front of everyone, as reported by People.

First interviews with the couple since their expulsion from the church in 2020 due to Carl’s “moral failures,” with the former pastor later openly admitting to infidelity, can be shown in the first episode of FX’s The Secrets of Hillsong on Friday. Episode 2 of the show featured Laura Lentz talking about how she was shocked to hear that her husband had “been unfaithful.”

According to the documentary, “incriminating text messages” between Carl and a lady called Ranin Karim were discovered earlier that month and sent to Hillsong’s leadership. Karim, his purported mistress, came out in an interview with Vanity Fair that was published weeks after he was fired.

During a subsequent Zoom call with the pair, board members and church founder Brian Houston (who would later quit in 2022 following allegations of se*ual behavior toward two women) questioned Carl about his relationship with the family’s nanny, Leona Kimes, who was also a member of the church.

Kimes had been a trusted family member, but she seemed to be “always” around the house, leading Laura to worry.

“I’d sometimes get these little feelings. And then one night, I found them in a compromising position,” she said. “I was angry, and I definitely freaked out.”

After that, however, Laura claims that Kimes denied wrongdoing and that they “never talked about it again.”

However, during the Zoom conversation, “the truth came out there in front of everyone,” she revealed, referring to “another affair.”

“So my feelings about that situation for a long time were actually true,” Laura said in the episode, sharing that she “had to move off of the screen because I was devastated.”

Carl’s dismissal from Hillsong was disclosed in November 2020, shortly after that Zoom call. Kimes came out six months later, accusing the sacked pastor of se*ual and emotional abuse; Carl disputed the charges. You can see the official tweet below in which Carl Lentz has admitted to cheating on his wife by sleeping with their family nanny.

In episode two, Carl confronts her charges, saying, “I am responsible for allowing an inappropriate relationship to develop in my house with someone that worked for us.” But he firmly denied any wrongdoing, saying that “any notion of abuse is categorically false.”

Carl announced last week on social media that he and his wife, who are still together after 20 years of marriage and who recently celebrated that anniversary, participated in the documentary as part of the healing for their relationship.
