Marvel’s Wolverine: Everything We Know So Far (Updates)

When Marvel’s Wolverine was introduced at the most recent PlayStation State of Play, it shocked comic book lovers and gamers alike. Spider-Man: Miles Morales and Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart is the latest releases from Insomniac, which has been on a tear lately. Spider-Man 2 and Wolverine have now been revealed by Insomniac. Insomniac is quickly rising to the top of the comic book game industry.

Wolverine is currently in development at Marvel, so we don’t know much about it just yet, but Sony’s blog released a few tidbits after the State of Play, so here are those for you to read about. In addition, the trailer has a few Easter eggs that may provide some insight into the plot of the game.

In the meantime, here’s all we know about Marvel’s Wolverine and what we hope to see in the next Logan resurrection.

Marvel’s Wolverine release date

We don’t know when Marvel’s Wolverine will be released, but Insomniac Games’ head of franchise strategy and studio relations, Ryan Schneider, says it’s “very early in development.”
Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, on the other hand, will be released exclusively on the PlayStation 5 in 2023. Wolverine is currently under development and we don’t have a release date, so I don’t expect him to appear until 2024 or 2025 at the earliest.

Marvel’s Wolverine story

Look closely at the trailer for Wolverine: Marvel’s Wolverine, and you may notice some hints to Wolverine #181’s debut appearance, which is being worked on by the game’s storyboard artists.

In Marvel’s Wolverine, it is feasible that Wolverine and the Hulk will team up for the first time in the series’ history. Assuming this is the case, Wendigo would be the primary opponent. The problem with this notion is that I don’t believe Wendigo could be the main villain in a game by Insomniac.

I assume Marvel’s Wolverine will take place well into Wolverine’s X-Men career because the world has watched Wolverine’s origin story one too many times and Insomniac didn’t cover Spider-genesis. Man’s The Brotherhood, which follows Wolverine’s journey to revenge on the murder of a little girl who sought him for help, is a story arc I’d want to see made into a video game.

I believe that a Wolverine adventure that is founded in reality would be as emotionally rewarding as the 2017 Logan picture. The adversaries of the plot are just average individuals.

Another easter egg was just discovered on the bar, and it was an eye patch. As Wolverine evades capture in Madripoor after the X-Men are assumed dead, he is known as Patch, a reference to his Patch persona.

We also learned that Walt D. Williams, who worked on Spec Ops: The Line, is a lead writer on Marvel’s Wolverine.

Marvel’s Wolverine gameplay

We don’t know what Marvel’s Wolverine gameplay will look like, but we have a few ideas. Creative Director Brian Horton and Game Director Cameron Christian (who both worked on Spider-Man: Miles Morales) will be at the helm of Marvel’s Wolverine project.

As a Wolverine game, it’s easy to get sucked into the traditional hack-and-slash traps. X-Men Origins: Wolverine was handled this way. It was a pleasant surprise, but it was still only OK. While Wolverine can be hacked and slashed to smithereens, you can tailor him to make the fighting feel more intense.

Take inspiration from games like Naughty Dog’s Uncharted and The Last of Us Part II. There was a lot of close-quarters fighting going on. Wolverine will benefit from that. It will feel like an arcade game if the camera is thrown far back and the character can quickly annihilate his adversaries. Because of Spider-playful, Man’s campy persona, some may assume the game is similar to that. And it is.

Wolverine, on the other hand, is a more realistic and gritty figure, and this should be reflected in the gameplay. Norse God of War vs. Greek God of War combat is something I’d like to see more of, and I believe other Wolverine fans feel the same way.

To see how Insomniac will handle Wolverine’s healing factor, I’ll be watching this closely. In terms of gameplay, there are two basic approaches: a slow and simple regeneration method and a more sophisticated one. Suppose your health regenerates so quickly that it’s nearly impossible to die, yet if you take on deadly opponents, your health drains out so quickly that you perish. Intense battles would ensue as a result.

Outlook

This Wolverine movie is sure to generate an enormous amount of speculation before we see any more genuine footage. All we have is a little teaser for at least three or four years. As far as we know, we have no idea what Wolverine looks like.
