Late this afternoon, police downplayed reports that one of Nida “Tangmo” Patcharaveerapong’s fellow passengers on the boat where she died last week had confessed to lying about her death.
Premyuda Watchung, a host on Channel 8 and an apparent friend of Tangmo’s, came to Facebook to assure everyone that the police will soon publish a statement regarding the occurrence since much skepticism had arisen regarding the account given by the five people with Tangmo on Friday night. A brief statement was released by the police just before 6 o’clock, in which they neither acknowledged nor denied the claims but did urge the public not to jump to conclusions.
Earlier today in the afternoon, a website that regularly broadcasts leaks and reliable information claimed that someone novice had assumed the helm of the boat, causing it to lurch, and knocking Tangmo off balance. According to the rumor mill, Tangmo grasped the hand of a bystander, who then let her go out of fear of being sucked down with her.
Channel 3 News and other media outlets claim to have corroborated the report with law enforcement.On Saturday, one day after she fell off a speedboat during a nighttime cruise of the Chao Phraya River, Tangmo’s body was discovered near the Pibun Songkhram Pier.
The persons on the boat with Tangmo have come under suspicion in recent days. The five other passengers’ versions of events have been widely divergent and ultimately proven false. Following Tangmo’s disappearance, Tangmo’s mother tried to contact all five of them but was unable.
The investigation into her untimely demise and the actions of her longtime manager, Itsarin “Kratik” Jutasuksawat, have become a national preoccupation.
Itsarin claims she witnessed Tangmo’s fall from the back of the boat when the latter was urinating and was right there with her. She has also stated that Tangmo did not know how to swim, despite evidence revealing that someone with access to the 37-year-old actress’ Instagram account deleted any photographs showing her swimming.
Police indicated yesterday that they would conduct polygraph tests on all five suspects; however, we have yet to hear the results.
