Michael Strahan’s Early Life.
Michael Anthony Strahan was born on November 21, 1971, in Houston, Texas. Louise and Gene Willie Strahan raised six children, of which he is the youngest. Strahan and his family relocated to the Army post in Mannheim, West Germany when he was nine years old.
He participated in organized football while attending Mannheim American High School, a school in Germany that is funded in part by the United States Department of Defense. His father moved him to live with his uncle Art, a former NFL player, in Houston over the summer before his senior year of high school so that he could continue playing football.
This change allowed Strahan to enroll at Texas Southern University on a football scholarship. Strahan attended Texas Southern University, where he was a football player. An end on the defense, that’s what he did. In Strahan’s junior year, he began to receive serious consideration as a future NFL player.
Including the Associated Press, four publications voted him to their respective first teams for All-America as a senior. Several publications chose him as their defensive player of the year in Division I-AA.
As a senior in 1992–1993, he was honored by being named to the Southwestern Athletic Conference’s First Team, winning SWAC Player of the Year for the second time, and garnering recognition as the nation’s top defensive player at the collegiate level by receiving the Black College Defensive Player of the Year award.
