For some families, like the Hurleys, basketball is ingrained in their DNA. Basketball enthusiasts throughout the world will recognize the name because of their long history of influence and widespread impact throughout the sport.
Dan Hurley is one of the most talked-about coaches right now after leading the Washington Huskies to a Final Eight appearance with an 88-65 victory over Arkansas. The coach at UConn has assembled a squad with a good chance of winning the national championship.
His brother, Bobby Hurley, coaches Arizona State, so they almost faced each other in the NCAA Tournament. The Sun Devils were eliminated by TCU in a close game (72-70), but they would have met UConn in the Final Eight if they had continued on.
There is less than a two-year gap between the two brothers, and they both have impressive coaching backgrounds. Yet, they both have a long way to go before they can match the coaching legacy of their late father.

According to Irish America, Dan Hurley and Bobby Hurley are brothers. They are the children of Bob Hurley, who was also a legendary coach in his own right. He coached at St. Anthony High School for 45 years, during which time the team won 26 state titles. In the history of the Basketball Hall of Fame, Hurley High School is only the third to be inducted.

Hurley went undefeated for five years in high school, and six of his players were picked in the first round of the NBA draft. He turned down a number of college offers to stay in high school, though. Both of the Hurley brothers played under him as well. The two brothers have taken different paths to coaching, but they’ve both found early success at the collegiate level. The family’s attention will now be solely on cheering for Dan Hurley and the rest of the UConn team as they proceed in the NCAA tournament.
Some of the best basketball in the tournament has been played by the Huskies. Adama Sanogo, a big man, leads them with 17.3 points per game and 7.5 rebounds per contest. They have a well-rounded offense led by Jordan Hawkins, a 6-foot-5 guard who averages 16.1 points per game.
On Saturday, No. 2 UConn (28-8) will take on No. 3 Gonzaga (31-5), hoping to win and advance to the Final Four. It would be UConn’s fifth trip to the Final Four overall, but Hurley’s first as head coach.
