Former American singer-songwriter Gary Robert Rossington has passed away. On December 4, 1951, he entered the world in Jacksonville, Florida, USA.

“It is with our utmost grief and sadness that we have to advise, that we lost our brother, friend, family member, songwriter, and guitarist, Gary Rossington, today,” the band posted on Facebook.
Whilst the band did not specify the reason for death, a post from 2021 revealed that Rossington had dealt with several heart issues and had undergone emergency heart surgery.
Rossington was born in 1951 in Florida and, along with drummer Bob Burns and bassist Larry Junstrom, formed the original lineup of Lynyrd Skynyrd in 1964. Must read about Maluma’s Net Worth.
He played distinctive slide guitar lines that were instrumental in making the band’s nearly 10-minute “Free Bird” a smash in 1973.
The guitarist made it through various harrowing incidents that occurred throughout the 1970s, including a severe vehicle accident in 1976 and the catastrophic plane disaster in 1977 that took the lives of three members of the band.
After the death of Ronnie Van Zant, Steve Gaines, and Cassie Gaines in the crash, the group disbanded, only to reorganize in 1987 with new members, including Van Zant’s younger brother Johnny on lead vocals.
Rossington was the sole remaining founding member of the band, and they had a festival scheduled for later this month.
Because the reason for death was not mentioned in the post, it is currently unknown. Another post on the band’s Facebook page from the time notes that Gary has a history of heart problems and underwent heart surgery in 2021.
