Alita: Battle Angel 2 has had huge fan support since the first film debuted way back in 2019. Even though a sequel is still far off, director Robert Rodriguez isn’t giving up hope.

Alita loses her lover, Hugo, but has come to understand herself and her place in the world better, rising to become Motorball champion and getting her shot at returning to the mysterious city, Zalem, and its leader Nova.
There is an entire scene about Motorball that didn’t make it into the final cut. producer Jon Landau told CinemaBlend: “There was a training sequence that we shot in an alley Hugo is teaching her how to do the street Motorball. That’s the only significant scene.”
Aside from the omitted scenes, it’s clear that Rodriguez and Cameron intended for the film to serve as a standalone narrative experience. Now she knows who she is and what her goals are, so the story still has a beginning, middle, and end, according to Rodriguez’s assessment.
Cameron, on the other hand, pointed out that the enigmas surrounding Alita’s centuries-long existence aren’t even fully addressed in Yukito Kishiro’s original manga.
That’s something we’re prepared to deal with, too, he assured us. “But it’s cheeky to set up a sequel before you’re proven. That can come back to bite you. We think of something like Warcraft that was set up to do sequels, and then it becomes mock-able because the film doesn’t succeed.

Rosa Salazar would undoubtedly return to reprise her role as Alita, not only because she is the star of the show, but also because she genuinely enjoys the role. Her final words were, “I would play Alita until my last breath.” “I would, and thanks to the performance capture technology, I probably could.”
We’d expect Christoph Waltz to be back as Alita’s surrogate father Dr. Dyson Ido, who also happens to be a scientist and a bounty hunter, as he’s confirmed he would return for a sequel.
“I haven’t heard anything and I’m a little disappointed and surprised that I haven’t heard a thing so far, because I know that it has followers,” he explained in April 2020.
“I know that people liked it and aside from what others said, I loved it and I liked working on it and I liked the result.”
Also, after being teased at the very end of the film, Edward Norton, who played the enigmatic Nova, should return. When it came to casting Nova, Rodriguez acknowledged that it was difficult because the actor’s presence is “really for the setup of a sequel”.
Norton was cast in the small, non-speaking role because the producers wanted to make sure the character was played by someone they would want to work with again on a potential Alita: Battle Angel sequel.
Another character, Clive Lee, was in the original script but was cut. “I figured we should save him for a sequel,” said the director, so we could see them in the sequel, but it’s unclear who would play them.

We can’t speculate on the release date because the film hasn’t been confirmed. However, we do know that it’s a long process.
At this point, Landau elaborated: “It’s a safe bet that you’ll need at least a year to write a script. If the script is good, you can expect a six- to a ten-month lead time before production begins. You then have a six-month shoot. Just about any film of this type requires at least a year of post-production.”
