Early Life
Joe Exotic was born in Garden City, Kansas, on March 5, 1963. Francis and Shirly Schreibvogel named him Joseph Allen. Joe and his four siblings moved from Kansas to Texas for high school.

Exotic Animal Career
Joe managed a pet store in West Palm Beach after the 1985 disaster. Joe became interested in exotic animals after handling young lions for the first time.
He went to Texas and founded a pet store in Arlington with his brother G.W. in 1986. Joe sold the pet shop and bought a 16-acre Oklahoma farm after his brother’s 1997 car accident.
In 1999, he dedicated the Garold Wayne Exotic Animal Memorial Park to his brother after developing the land for two years. The zoo’s first residents were his brother’s two pets.
2000 brought Joe his first two abandoned tigers. He bought some Michael Jackson alligators. Joe ran the G.W. Zoo for two decades.
