Burt Sugarman’s Early Life
On January 4, 1939, in Los Angeles, California, the world was introduced to Burton Roy Sugarman, who would later become known as Burt Sugarman. While growing up, Burt enjoyed racing dirt bikes and even won the state championship in California. His father owned a pharmacy.

Sugarman spent three years at USC and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in finance. Soon after, he started a car sales and financing firm. At the age of twenty-four, Burt saw a picture of an Italian car called a Ghia in a car magazine.
He immediately booked a flight to Turin to purchase one. In the future, he would also serve as a distributor for Excalibur and Maserati in addition to Ghia in North America.
