Venom vs Thor Team Up to Fight a New Deadly Threat to Earth!

Venom vs Thor

Venom vs Thor

Thor, the All-Father of Asgard, and Venom, the King in Black of symbiotes, will team up in a two-part story to protect Earth from a new enemy. This new team-up makes a lot more sense than first appears to be the case, and it’s all because of writer Donny Cates, even though the two characters seem to share little in common aside from their amazing power.

During his iconic run on the character, Cates reimagined the Venom mythos by introducing the King in Black and developing the lore of the alien symbiote race. Then he took over Thor from Jason Aaron and is continuing to treat the God of Thunder, who is undergoing a period of enormous difficulty, in the same manner.

The most recent installment of the “God of Hammers” tale depicted the moment when Thor’s hammer, Mjolnir, betrayed him by becoming possessed by the evil spirit of Mangog, who had tainted the God Tempest who originally bestowed the weapon with its abilities. Odin sacrificed his life to end the danger, becoming Thor the only All-Father and the rightful heir to the entire Odinforce.

While all was going on, Eddie Brock had to deal with Meridious, who had him confined in the future for millions of years, and his new responsibilities as the King in Black. Dylan, Eddie’s son, has assumed control of the Venom symbiote on Earth and is attempting to reconcile his new identity while investigating his father’s mysterious disappearance.

Both Thor #27 and #28 now tease a Thor/Hulk showdown. During the run of issues #28 and #29, Cates will be joined by the famous Salvador Larroca on art, with series regular Nic Klein returning for issue #29.

Donny Cates thought he had told all the Venom stories he could, but editor Will Moss of Thor noted that “the incredible world-building that Ram V, Al Ewing, and Bryan Hitch have been doing in their outstanding Venom book” encouraged him to write this epic crossover.

Cates now have inspiration for a story that will unite Thor’s and the King’s Black realms. Browse the cover for Thor #27, painted by Nic Klein, down below!

Apparently, Eddie will return to the present-day Earth and pair up with Thor in Thor#27, according to Marvel’s teaser. After all the destruction inflicted by Knull, it will be interesting to see how ready the All-Father is to cooperate with a King in Black.

Eddie Brock combined Mjolnir and the Silver Surfer’s board to create a potent weapon with which he destroyed the god of darkness, Knull, and so securing Thor’s victory. With Mjolnir’s help, Knull was easily defeated, therefore it seems logical that Thor would make Eddie Brock feel obligated to him.

It’s exciting for whatever reason the partnership was formed. Cates have altered the histories of both heroes significantly, thus it stands to reason that the author would wish to pair them off. Even if Thor and Venom couldn’t be more different from one another, their contrast is what makes their partnership so intriguing.
