Does Rick die in the Walking Dead?

Carl stated that Rick’s only duty was to love him, however, it appears that Carl was dissatisfied with the parenting he received from Rick.
We don’t see Carl die at the end of the film. As Rick and Michonne watch from the outside of the chapel, a single gunshot can be heard, indicating that Carl shot himself in the head.
