When will Soulframe be available? Since it was initially revealed in 2022, the new fantasy MMORPG from the makers of Warframe has been on our minds. Other than the fact that it is a stunning open-world game set in a natural setting and revolving around themes of climate change and environmental degradation, there is still little known about the project, so of course we had to learn more.
We had a brief glance into the Soulframe universe when we were at Tennocon 2023, and it is clear that this world is significantly different from Warframe. Here is everything we currently know about the MMORPG, and gosh it does look like it’s going to be a terrific one.

Soulframe Release Date
The release of Soulframe is anticipated sometime in 2023, following the completion of this year’s Warframe expansion.
PopTop posted a Twitter Post which can be seen below.
Soulframe is an upcoming free-to-play action combat MMORPG, being developed by Digital Extremes.
While Soulframe does not currently have a release date, the developers have stated that they would like to have a playable version of the game available sometime in 2023. pic.twitter.com/OdY0XEaLNr

Project manager Steve Sinclair expressed his hope in a tweet that the group can do some closed alpha stuff next year. Though there is currently no information available, this might indicate that a small number of people will be able to obtain the game in the upcoming months. To keep players interested, there will also be regular development streams.
Soulframe Trailers
The main event at Tennocon 2022 was the Soulframe reveal trailer, which previewed Digital Extremes’ upcoming significant project. There was no gaming video included in the trailer because it was solely cinematic.
It does, however, provide some insight into how the game will set itself apart from the developer’s other titles, such as Warframe. Although the official cinematic trailer is still the only trailer accessible, it may satisfy your curiosity.
Soulframe Gameplay
Contrasting sharply with the action-packed gameplay of Warframe is Soulframe. The team decided to deliberately slow down the action and give you more time to consider each move rather than opting for lightning-fast action. There is a lot of ducking and parrying, but there are also a ton of other combat techniques.
In the Tennocon 2023 demo, when the protagonist swings their sword against an adversary, it flies back at them like a boomerang. Three separate skill trees (Courage, Grace, Spirit) also give you the option to use nature-based magic or become more tanky and agile. Along with the typical fireballs and earth-shattering earthquakes, there are spells that seem to turn foes to stone.
You can also take advantage of the surroundings by throwing foes off cliffs and into deep crevasses. If that still doesn’t satisfy you, you can also conjure a monstrous wolf that rips your adversaries apart.
Geoff Crookes, the creative director, also provided on potential travel destinations outside of the hub region. This confirms that dungeons are procedural in terms of gameplay.
You’ll come across Wandering Souls as you explore the areas; the spirits are basically a fourth spell slot that you can equip with their qualities. These may offer battle advantages like burning weapons or aid in dungeon exploration by revealing new doors and passageways.
However, one of my favorite aspects is the ability to communicate with others by making music on what seems to be a panpipe. You can view remnants of the past and get understanding of how the world worked by playing specific notes.

Soulframe Narrative And Setting
A sky people or rogue Ode is the subject of Soulframe. We don’t know why the character opted to leave the Ode, but it seems like the group is tainting the environment. Our first encounter is with the enigmatic Lady Deora, a character who seems to have been tainted by the Ode and turned against nature.
It’s unclear how we came to know her, and it’s still unclear what happens to her after she’s been purified. What is known is that the corrupted stag, Garren, bows to a mysterious ‘Empress,’ who appears to have despatched a guy.
Whichever way you look at it, it’s obvious that the game is, heavily influenced by themes of nature, restoration, and exploration. The universe of Soulframe leans more toward fantasy and magic than the future settings and people of Warframe, while it isn’t particularly grimdark.
Though there are still suggestions that Soulframe won’t entirely depart from science fiction, there are still some futuristic features in the character designs, such as the player’s bionic limb and a big spaceship-like building that can be seen in the second half of the Tennocon 2023 demo.
The player aids animals and joins them in fight, as we see throughout the loading screens, and small bird familiars that can lead you through the dungeons, so this idea of nature is also apparent from the trailer. There will also be creatures like charming deer and the beautiful elk Garren, who come after the boss fight.
