In the League of Legends Preseason 2023 Update, Smite Will No Longer Heal, but You’ll Get a Jungle Pet!

Smite Server Status

Riot Games has started testing the upcoming changes to League of Legends for the next 2023 season on the Public Test Realm (PBE) server and is collecting massive amounts of data and player feedback.

The developer’s assessment and guidance will ultimately determine whether or not these alterations make it into the final preseason release.

However, next year the jungle will appear drastically different due to Riot’s efforts to make the role more approachable. It’s far less popular than others because, as stated in a dev blog update two months ago, “wildly intricate sets of strategies and game knowledge [are] required [for players to be even remotely effective at the jungle.”

As stated in a PBE post by Spideraxe30, the Summoner spell Smite will no longer heal the jungle but will do more damage as part of this campaign.

There is currently only one expansion for Smite. The jungle can purchase Emberknife or Hailblade, and after five uses, either will transform into Challenging Smite or Chilling Smite, respectively.

Primal Smite’s first upgrade, which deals damage and slows champions, is useful in the preseason, but the second upgrade is where the actual power lies. As it deals 1,200 damage in an area of effect to non-champions and pets, it helps the jungle deal with opponent pets and champions whose ultimates summon creatures, such as Annie’s Tibbers and Ivern’s Daisy.

It’s very similar to Season 5’s Ranger’s Trailblazer, which did the same amount of damage to all nearby minions and monsters, plus an additional 50%.

The standard jungle item is being replaced by pets, which may be purchased from the game’s shopkeeper. You can take out camps faster with their assistance, and they level up when you kill neutral creatures and opposing champions. You may strengthen them with treats, and then they’ll offer you special skills in their final form.

In an LoL Pls post, Riot Games clarified that the intention “is not to ‘dumb down the jungle or remove the chance to show off your jungle knowledge,” but rather to make sure that the jungle is complex in the correct spots.

We’re looking into making some adjustments, such as adding jungle pathing aids—think of them as recommended goods, but for achieving your first clear.
