Cricket legend Roger Binny played for India in the 1983 World Cup winning team. The former bowler-turned-all-spectacular rounder’s performance in the 1983 World Cup catapulted him to fame.
With 18 wickets at the end of the tournament, he was the best bowler of the bunch. As a sportsman, Roger Binny held his own as well. Although he made significant contributions, they were sometimes overshadowed by the team’s superstars. Binny, though, came to the team’s rescue on more than one occasion.

Career
Roger Binny tried his hand at football and hockey before committing to cricket. At the tender age of twenty, he entered the professional arena and immediately became a smash hit in the home entertainment industry.
He amassed 563 runs in his rookie year of Ranji Trophy play. The 1979 match against Pakistan marked Roger Binny’s debut on the international stage. Roger was the team’s sprinter.
In 1983, Kapil Dev’s India squad, which included Roger Binny, competed in the World Cup. In the beginning, he was a secondary player to superstars like Kapil Dev and Sunil Gavaskar. But luck was on his side, as he ended up with the most wickets in the competition. India won their first World Cup thanks in large part to his excellent play.
When Roger Binny retired, he started his career as a coach. For the 2000 edition of the Cup, he coached the Indian U-19 squad that was captained by Mohammad Kaif and won the trophy for India.
After his coaching career flourished, the Karnataka State Cricket Association recruited him as an official. After some time, he rose through the ranks of the KSCA and became president. Meanwhile, in 2012, he served on the BCCI selection panel. Not only that, but Roger Binny’s son, Stuart Binny, is also a former all-around Indian cricketer.

Controversy
Roger Binny, a member of the selection committee, was accused of “Nepotism” for putting his son, Stuart Binny, on the squad without considering his qualifications. Roger, however, denied these claims, saying that he left the meeting before his son’s name was discussed and left the vote to the other members.
