Robert Blake was an American actor who was known for his parts in the 1967 movie “In Cold Blood” and the 1970s U.S. TV series “Baretta.”
He was born on September 18, 1933, in Nutley, New Jersey. Blake started acting when he was a child. From 1939 to 1944, he played the lead in the last years of the Our Gang short film series made by Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer.

Blake’s career never got back on track after his wife Bonny Lee Bakley was shot and killed outside of a Studio City restaurant on May 4, 2001.
He was sure that he hadn’t killed his wife, and in the end, a jury agreed with him. But a civil jury would find that he was responsible for her death and order him to pay $30 million to Bakley’s family, which put him out of business.
Rose Lenore, the daughter he had with Bakley, was raised by other family members, and Blake didn’t see her for years until 2019. She would tell People magazine that she didn’t call him Dad but Robert.
Blake was a big star when he was young. He was in the Our Gang comedies and the classic movie The Treasure of the Sierra Madre. As an adult, he was praised for his role as the murderer Perry Smith in the movie version of In Cold Blood by Truman Capote.
His best work was on the TV show Baretta, which ran from 1975 to 1978. He played a detective who liked to wear disguises and carried a pet cockatoo on his shoulder. It was typical of him to play tough guys with soft hearts, and the line “Don’t do the crime if you can’t do the time” was often used as a catchphrase.
