Early Life
Born Victor James Santiago Jr. on September 6, 1977, in New York City to Puerto Rican parents, N.O.R.E. is a rapper and actor known for his aggressive style and aggressive lyrics.
Capone-N-Noreaga
With his partner and fellow Queens rapper and ex-con Capone, Santiago began performing as Noreaga in 1995. A year later, in 1996, the duo inked a deal with Penalty Recordings and dropped their first full-length, titled “The War Report,” in 1997.
The album was well-received by critics and fans alike, and its singles “T.O.N.Y.,” “Closer,” and “Illegal Life” all became Top 40 hits. Capone received another prison term after the release of “The War Report.” Later, in 2000, he and Noreaga got back together to release their second studio album, “The Reunion,” which peaked at number 31 on the Billboard 200.
To be precise, Capone n’ Noreaga’s follow-up album, titled “Channel 10,” did not come out until 2009. As a follow-up to their debut album, “The War Report,” they dropped “The War Report 2: Report the War” in 2010.
At that point, Capone-N-Noreaga broke up. The band eventually got back together to record their fifth studio album, titled “Lessons,” which was released in 2015.
Solo Career
Noreaga began his solo recording career in the late 1990s when Capone was behind bars. In 1998, he dropped his first self-titled album, “N.O.R.E.” The name, which is an abbreviation of “Niggaz on the Run Eatin'” and a contraction of “Noreaga,” would eventually become the performer’s new moniker.
The album was a smashing success, peaking at number three on the Billboard 200 and giving rise to the smash hit single “Superthug.” Subsequently, Noreaga dropped “Melvin Flynt – Da Hustler,” which debuted in the top ten on the Billboard 200 and eventually peaked at number nine.
Going by the moniker N.O.R.E., he issued his third solo effort, “God’s Favorite,” in 2002. Album peaked at #3 on the Billboard 200 and gave rise to N.O.R.E.’s most successful single, “Nothin’.”
After the success of “God’s Favorite,” N.O.R.E. decided to switch his focus to reggaeton to pay homage to his Puerto Rican roots. Later, in 2006, he dropped the smash hit “Oye Mi Canto,” which was included on the album N.O.R.E. y la Familia… Ya T Sabe. “Mas Maiz” was the album’s other breakout hit. N.O.R.E. then dropped two albums, “Normality” and “S.O.R.E.“; he publicly criticized the latter and urged his audience to avoid it. In those intervening years, he published the album “Student of the Game” and then, four more years later, “5E.”
Flipmode Squad
From 2011 through 2014, N.O.R.E. was a part of Busta Rhymes’ Flipmode Squad, a hip-hop group. During his time with the group, Spliff Star, DJ Scratch, Brady Lanter, Reek da Villian, Dready, Lonny Bereal, and Nikki Grier were also involved. N.O.R.E. collaborated with Flipmode Squad to create the mixtape “Catastrophic” in 2012.
Radio and Podcasting
For three years (2009–2011), N.O.R.E. and DJ EFN co-hosted a show on Sirius XM Radio called “Militainment Crazy Raw Radio.” His record label’s imprint, Militainment Business, inspired the show’s moniker.
Together with DJ EFN, N.O.R.E. launched and hosts the podcast “Drink Champs” that same year. Quavo, Shaquille O’Neal, and Kevin Hart are just a few of the famous people that have appeared on the program.
After having Kanye West on an episode of Drink Champs in October 2022, the show and N.O.R.E. found themselves in a bit of trouble. As a result of Kanye West’s antisemitic comments on the episode, N.O.R.E. was criticized for not responding strongly enough.
Legal Trouble
In early 2009, N.O.R.E. got into a fight with a customer at a Fatburger in Miami Beach, Florida, and was arrested for it.
