A new video reveals the suspect in an Oregon double murder’s escape from police custody. In compliance with the law, a deputy unfastened Edi Villalobos, then 28 years old, from his handcuffs and leg shackles before he was brought into court in February.
Soon after, Villalobos stands up and bolts for the exit, leading the deputy on a chase along a corridor and out the building. The stabbing deaths of two people in 2021 brought Villalobos before the court.
A Murder Suspect In Oregon Escapes From The Courthouse In A Crazy Security Video
According to Fox News, surveillance footage from inside an Oregon courthouse shows a murder suspect running away from bailiffs after they uncuffed him in court, as is mandated by state law. This triggered a large manhunt.
The trial of Edi Villalobos Jr., a 28-year-old accused of murder and a number of other charges, was scheduled to begin, but he never showed up. Instead, footage shows that he ran down the corridor and out an exit exclusively accessible to staff members.
In accordance with Oregon law, “the deputies released all shackles from Villalobos during the jury selection process,” read a statement from the Washington County Sheriff’s Office. “The court took a recess around 11 a.m., at which point Villalobos was again restrained. Upon the conclusion of the break, the deputies acted in accordance with Oregon law and freed Villalobos of all shackles.”

The incident occurred on February 28; the sheriff’s office released the video on Thursday. You can see the video below.
According to the sheriff’s office, after a two-hour pursuit, officers eventually tracked him down to an apartment in Hillsboro where a neighbour had called 911 to report hearing a break-in in progress.
The sheriff revealed that when deputies entered the residence, they found Villalobos tucked away in a closet with a blanket over his head.
Court documents reveal that while Villalobos was in jail awaiting his murder trial, he was charged with unlawful possession of a weapon by an inmate and with distributing contraband.

On March 21, the court will hold a status hearing for Villalobos. According to the sheriff’s office, the trial was postponed after the escape. It was reported by the authorities that it would be rescheduled.
