In 2002, he was a significant factor in bringing Chris Paul and the Hornets to the city of New Orleans from Charlotte, where they had played previously. Before devoting his full time and attention to politics in 1992, he worked as an attorney in private practice and achieved great success.

Ernest N. “Dutch” Morial was the dean of Xavier University in New Orleans when Marc was born. He is the second child out of a total of five. Morial continued his education at Jesuit High School in New Orleans, where he was inducted into the National Honor Society before graduating. At Jesuit High School, where there were a total of 1,000 students, he was one of just 14 black students. He also established the Student Association for Black Achievement and planned the school’s first Black History Month celebration.

In his senior year of high school, Morial was recognized as one of the Outstanding Young Men in America, as well as being listed in Who’s Who Among High School Students and Who’s Who in America.
