Us, Mexico Head to World Cup After Final Qualifying Games & More Detail!

Mexico Game

Mexico Game

After their last qualifying games, the United States and Mexico are both going to the men’s football World Cup in Qatar.

Even though the US team lost to Costa Rica 2-0 on Wednesday, they are still in third place in the Confederation of North, Central America and Caribbean Association Football (CONCACAF). This means that they will be going to the highest level of football in November.

The US missed out on the 2018 World Cup in Russia, but after beating Panama 5-1 on Monday, they only needed to not lose by more than six goals to qualify.

“Man, we are competitors. We don’t like losing. Christian Pulisic, a player, said after the game, “At the time, I was upset, and it took a little while for the win to “sink in.”

“This is what I’ve always wanted to do, and my feelings are all over the place right now,” he said.

Mexico reaches finals

On Wednesday, Mexico beat El Salvador 2-0 at Azteca Stadium in Mexico City. There wasn’t much drama there, either.

Mexico had a rough qualifying round, so they were in third place overall going into the game. Mexico would have had to lose to both El Salvador and Costa Rica and have the US beat El Salvador and Costa Rica

Even if that had happened, Mexico and Costa Rica would have both had 28 points, so the results would have had to take away enough of Mexico’s +7 goal differential for Costa Rica, which came into the game with a +3 goal differential, to win.

The last round of qualifying games happened after Canada beat Jamaica 4-0 on Sunday to win first place in the region and end a 36-year streak of not making the World Cup.

The winner of the Oceania region, New Zealand, will play one game against Costa Rica in Qatar to decide which team will play in the tournament. Costa Rica came in fourth in the eight-country round.
