According to a tweet sent out by the Athletic Knicks beat reporter Fred Katz on Sunday, forward RJ Barrett of the New York Knicks is injured and will not play in the game scheduled for Sunday against the Washington Wizards. Barrett, a former first-round pick in 2019 out of Duke University, is now contributing 19.5 points, 5.1 rebounds, and 2.7 assists per game for the Knicks in the 2022-2023 season. He has started 71 games for the Knicks.

On Sunday, if the New York Knicks are successful in punching their ticket into the NBA playoffs, RJ Barrett won’t be there to celebrate with them.
Due to an injury, the New York Knicks have announced that Barrett will not play in their last game of the weekend against the Washington Wizards. This will be Barrett’s first strikeout since the 5th of February.

In addition to the Knicks losing both Barrett and Randle, the visiting Wizards (34-43) do not have Kristaps Porzingis, Bradley Beal, or Kyle Kuzma on the floor. This results in a significant loss of star power for Sunday’s matchup.
Barrett’s departure may be a sign that there is something contagious going around the Knicks’ locker room: despite the fact that he has been out of the Knicks rotation for a considerable amount of time, veteran Derrick Rose has also been unable to play due to an illness for the last four games.
