Kaitlan Collins Of CNN Fought Valiantly To Disprove Trump’s False Electoral Claims
CNN anchor Kaitlan Collins spent the most of Wednesday night’s 70-minute forum with potential Republican voters in New Hampshire trying to refute erroneous assertions made by former president Donald Trump about several topics, but her rebuttals fell on deaf ears, according to The Washington Post.
As the crowd cheered Trump’s boasts and lies, Collins pushed back every time Trump said the 2020 election was “stolen.”
Collins said, “The election wasn’t rigged, Mr. President. You can’t say that all night long,” he said.
Unfortunately, he did. Collins cut Trump off as he made unsubstantiated allegations regarding the 2020 race, saying, “Mr. President, I have to stop you there because there is no evidence of that.”
Trump remarked that in his opinion, only “unless somebody is very stupid” would think the 2020 election was fair. “I know you very well,” he said to Collins. “You’re not stupid at all, but you perhaps are given an agenda or you have an agenda.”
Collins had a reputation for challenging then-President Trump and his advisors throughout her time in office. After Collins pressed Trump with questions on Vladimir Putin and ex-Trump attorney Michael Cohen at a July 2018 Oval Office photo op, the president prevented Collins from attending the subsequent Rose Garden news conference.

Collins asked Trump explicitly on Wednesday night if he wants Ukraine to win against Russia, but Trump avoided answering. The reporter probed, “Do you want Ukraine to win this war? I don’t think in terms of winning and losing,” Trump said in response.
Collins continued: “Can you say if you want Ukraine or Russia to win this war?” Trump responded: “I want everybody to stop dying. They’re dying, Russians and Ukrainians.”
Collins concluded, “You won’t say that you want Ukraine to win.”
In New Hampshire, site of the first Republican presidential primary in 2024, Trump appeared to have a sizable home-field advantage over Collins and CNN among the gathering audience.
When Trump called Collins “nasty” during a back-and-forth about Trump taking papers to Mar-a-Lago, where he lives in Florida, the crowd roared with laughter. During the conversation, Trump became annoyed with Collins. “Are you ready? Are you ready? Can I talk?” Trump asked.
“Yeah, what’s the answer,” Collins retorted. “Do you mind?” the former president responded.
“I would like for you to answer the question. That’s why I asked it,” Collins responded.
Trump characterized you as a “nasty person” and said as much.
Trump informed Collins, “you don’t know the subject,” and when Collins argued otherwise, Trump addressed the crowd, saying, “She doesn’t understand.”
Collins also tried to stop Trump when he said he had the right to declassify papers and take them. “I have to stop you right there, though,” she said. “The Presidential Records Act, which is not widely known, does not state that it is permissible to carry documents with you. It says that they are the property of the federal government.”
Social media and unofficial reports from CNN employees who attended but were not authorized to comment publicly about the forum’s reception suggest that viewers were largely unimpressed. They understood what an uphill battle Collins was up against.
“Kaitlan is in a no-win situation,” one CNN employee stated. As in, “I can’t believe anyone thought this was a good idea.”
“Total debacle,” another CNN employee chimed in. Collins is one of the network’s rising stars, but her morning show, “CNN This Morning,” has been in turmoil ever since Don Lemon was fired. You may also read the tweet below with regard to Kaitlan Collins.

A source close to the network has said that Collins, who participated in the forum, is being evaluated for a permanent post at 9 p.m.
CNN president Chris Licht, who has made it a point to expand the amount of Republican guests on the network and to refocus CNN to serve as an impartial news provider, also used the town hall as a watershed event.
Several high-profile hosts who were vocal in their opposition to the Trump administration have been let go from the network during Licht’s tenure. CNN has been a frequent target of criticism from Republicans, and it is unclear if the town hall will enhance the network’s popularity with this demographic.
MSNBC host Mehdi Hasan wrote, “I thought this #CNNTownhall with Trump would be bad, but it’s much worse than I thought it would be.” There aren’t enough follow-ups. “The crowd was rooting for him. Sheesh.”
On Wednesday night, CNN made a statement praising Collins’ work. “Tonight Kaitlan Collins showed what it means to be a world-class journalist,” the network said. “She posed difficult, reasonable, and revealing inquiries. She kept up with President Trump and fact-checked him in real time to give voters important information about his views as the Republican frontrunner for the 2024 election.
She reminded the crowd and viewers, “He is currently leading the Republican field while also facing multiple criminal investigations and an indictment.”
Collins questioned Trump at the end of the forum if he planned to recognize the results of the 2024 presidential election. Trump and Collins shook hands as the ceremony came to a close. “Thank you very much, Kaitlan,” the ex-president said.
Jake Tapper was CNN’s first anchor to offer commentary after the forum ended. He concluded the evening by saying, “That was an interesting night.” He claimed that “Mr. Trump’s first lie was told just seconds into the night” and that “the falsehoods kept coming, fast and furiously” throughout the rest of the evening.
