In The Trailer, Sherry Cola, Ashley Park, and Stephanie Hsu Go On An Exciting Trip

According to POPSUGAR, Ashley Park, Stephanie Hsu, and Sherry Cola Go on a Wild Road Trip in Joy Ride trailer. You can check the official trailer here:

Adele Lim, co-writer of “Crazy Rich Asians,” makes her directorial debut with “Joy Ride,” a comedy about a trip to China that develops into a chaotic (and hilarious) journey of self discovery. Ashley Park, from “Emily in Paris,” and Sherry Cola play best friends Audrey and Lolo, who go on a business trip to China with the intention of tracking for Audrey’s birth mother.

The plans of Lolo, Audrey, and their friends, including Lolo’s cousin Deadeye (Sabrina Wu) and Audrey’s ex-roommate Kat (recent Oscar candidate Stephanie Hsu), are derailed when they meet a heroin dealer on the train.

One of the trailer’s funniest moments occurs when the friends, in an effort to get rid of the narcotics as quickly as possible, try to eat and conceal them all over and within their bodies. “Just push, pull… I mean twist it!” Lolo encourages a desperate Kat as she tries to remove the bags she stashed in her butt.

It’s not a Bop It, it’s my asshole!” she replies. You may see the official tweet by Joy Ride below in which it is claimed that it will pull through the theaters on July 7.

At the SXSW festival in Austin on March 17, “Joy Ride” was unveiled to the public for the first time. Lim told Vanity Fair that she wanted to create a film like “The Hangover” or “Bridesmaids,” but one that focused on young Asian women.

There is a lot of exoticization and fetishization of Asian American women in media, she said.  “We really wanted to tell a story inspired by our friendship and our friends, and having characters that were messy and thirsty and just pieces of work.” At the end, it looks like an unrestrained comedy about friendship, identity, and having a good time.
