When compared to other current sagas, the John Wick films stand out as one of the few that have maintained a high standard of excellence across the board. John Wick: Chapter 4 had high expectations because of how much people love the John Wick series and because of how much pressure Keanu Reeves and director Chad Stahelski are under to outdo themselves with each new feature.

Thankfully, the fourth film in the series beat all of the other installments in terms of action. John Wick: Chapter 4 is the longest John Wick film to date at nearly three hours, but it’s also the most dramatic and has a fantastic climax that perfectly wraps up this era of the franchise.

After being accused of committing crimes by the High Table, John is ultimately assassinated by Winston Scott (Ian McShane) by having him injured in the New York Continental Hotel. Although the Bowery King has rescued John and escorted him to safety, Winston continues to be one of John’s closest allies.

Sadly, the High Table is still determined to injure him. Marquis Vincent de Gramon, the strong leader of the High Table, has put a price on his head, which can only be removed if John takes his place. John Wick Final Chapter Ending Explained

According to Collider, John has been tracking down High Table members across the globe, only to be told that he cannot clear his reputation because he has been excommunicated. When Winston gets a visit from Marquis, he ruins the New York Continental, declares the site excommunicated, and assassinated Charon, putting his family and house in grave danger. Mr. Nobody (Shamier Anderson) and Caine (Donnie Yen) are hired by Marquis to assassinate him afterwards.

When John goes to the Osaka Continental for safety, Caine and Marquis’s troops storm the building, assassinating the manager, Shimazu Koji (Hiroyuki Sanada). John and Koji were friends in the past, but Akira, Koji’s daughter (played by Rina Sawayama), insists that John still owes her father money. John is instructed by Winston that in order to join the High Table and represent a crime family in New York, he must challenge Marquis to a duel.

Connection To The Past

On behalf of the Ruska Roma crime syndicate, John travels to Berlin to challenge an opponent to a duel. John is able to obtain the family’s blessing despite the fact that his adoptive sister Katia which is played by Natalia Tena and whose official Instagram handle is @nattenalady, still harbors resentment towards him. John’s bond with Caine, who is obliged to work for Marquis to save the lives of his daughter, is also revealed during their Berlin encounter.

With Winston as his second, John may now formally challenge Marquis to a duel, and Marquis has claimed Caine as his second. The combat will take place in Sacré-Coeur, where they will stand thirty yards apart and shoot pistols at each other. In exchange for his help, Winston wants John to reinstate him and the New York Continental if he wins.

When John arrives in Paris, the city erupts in violence because Marquis puts a high price on his head, inciting assassins from all over to begin hunting for him. John is doubtful that he would be able to reach the church before sunrise after sustaining multiple wounds on his journey there. Fortunately, Koji shows up at the perfect moment to ensure that John makes it on time. Mr. Nobody, who has gone to the chapel to observe the duel, is also spared.

An Ending Fight

The fight is set up to last thirty paces, with ten-pace gaps. No one gets assassinated in the combat. Koji fires several vicious bullets, nearly injuring John, who has fallen to the ground. Koji is about to fire the fatal blow when Marquis steps in to take his place so he may put John to de@th himself. But John hasn’t fire yet, and Marquis doesn’t know that. The Harbinger of the High Table (Clancy Brown) has authorized Winston’s return to his former position as concierge at the rebuilt New York Continental. John, still mortally wounded, collapses on the church steps and looks like he has passed away. The funeral for him and his wife Helen took place in New York.

Future And Post-Credits Scene

A scene after the credits shows that Caine is trying to find his daughter, but the sequence ends as Akira follows them and pulls out a knife. Caine was John’s ally, and she still wants revenge, so it’s possible that the two will end up at odds with one other. But it’s not certain when they will meet again. Even though John Wick: Chapter 5 was given the go-ahead, Stahelski said that the decision is up to the studio and that he and Reeves are still looking at their alternatives.

Ballerina, the sequel film, will feature return appearances from Reeves, Reddick, and McShane. The next John Wick film features Ana de Armas as the deadly assassin Rooney and is set between John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum and John Wick: Chapter 4.
