Monster: The Jeffery Dahmer Story, available on Netflix, is the streaming service’s newest smash blockbuster. The production based on the murders committed in the United States by one of the worst serial murderers of the 20th century had the streaming service’s largest debut to date after its release on September 21 with over 196 million hours viewed. Dahmer, often known as the “Milwaukee Butcher,” was responsible for the deaths of 17 children and teenagers between the years of 1978 and 1991.
Massive curiosity has been piqued by the grisly tale of the Milwaukee Cannibal, who ate some of his victims and kept portions of their bodies for souvenirs. The culprit was apprehended in 1991, given 16 life sentences, and killed three years later.
The parents, Lionel Dahmer and Joyce Anette Flint are a natural focus for the art made by Ian Brennan and Ryan Murphy. The father of the Milwaukee butcher is retiring from public life in 2020 after having spoken out publicly for decades about his son’s murderous actions. He is 86 years old and currently resides in Ohio. Even the chemist’s book, titled “A Father’s Story,” is a memoir of sorts, detailing Jeffrey’s formative years. He wrote about how his son Jeffrey’s offenses changed him, strengthened their bond, and forced him to humble himself during the trial, and he published the book in March 1994, only months before Jeffrey was slain.
Some parts, including those in which he speculates about what may have triggered his son’s criminal behavior, have been panned, however. He writes in the book that his wife’s prenatal medicine may have hurt their child’s brain development.
In addition, he blames himself for not providing Jeffrey the emotional care he undoubtedly needed and wonders if Jeffrey’s reticence as a child was a hidden warning of his violent impulses. Lionel visited Jeffrey frequently during his brief incarceration, and each visit began with a bear hug.
The mother of Jeffrey Dahmer passed away in the year 2000 from complications related to breast cancer. She and Lionel had been fighting for years because Lionel wanted to pursue a doctorate in chemistry, and they divorced in the 1970s when their son was 18 years old. Jeffrey was a “regular boy,” she said, and she never saw any symptoms of trouble.
She made it known before she passed away that she wanted Jeffrey’s brain donated to science to determine the root of the cannibal’s savage nature, but Lionel instead had Jeffrey cremated. Some of her statements show that she was always haunted by her son’s criminal past: “I wake up every morning and for a brief second I don’t realize I’m Jeffrey Dahmer’s mother, and then it all pours in,” she remarked in 1993.
She attempted suicide twice: once a few months before her son’s death, and once on his birthday in 1996. She left the door open to a gas oven the first time and switched it on, but luckily someone spotted her in time. The second time, following an unsuccessful attempt to poison herself with carbon monoxide in the garage, she called 911 herself.

Jeffrey Dahmer’s Brother Changed His Identity
After his older brother’s arrest for 17 murders became public knowledge, the younger brother of the Milwaukee butcher decided to adopt a new identity. David’s identity has remained a mystery, but in an interview with Larry King in 2004, Lionel Dahmer and his spouse Shari—played by Molly Ringwald in Netflix’s adaptation—said that David had a career and was expecting their second child. Currently, he is 56 years old.
War for the Ashes of Jeffrey Dahmer
After Jeffrey died in jail, Lionel Dahmer and Joyce Flint went to court to determine what would happen to their son’s body. The court sided with Jeffrey’s dad, allowing him to burn the body to the ground without worrying about the offender’s brain being studied for possible biological motivations for the crimes. Both parents shared in the ash distribution.
