In winning her first Oscar, Jamie Lee Curtis surpassed the achievements of her famous parents, who were nominated for the same honor.
The daughter of Tony Curtis and Janet Leigh (of “Psycho”) was named best actress in a supporting role for her work in “Everything, Everywhere, All at Once” at the 89th Academy Awards on Sunday night.
In her heartfelt acceptance speech, Curtis, 64, paid tribute to her Hollywood upbringing while lamenting that her parents had passed away before she could get their award.
As per CNN, Curtis said-
“I know it looks like I’m standing up here by myself, but I am not. I am hundreds of people.” before listing her coworkers on “Everything Everywhere All at Once,” adding: “We just won an Oscar.”
She continued by thanking Curtis’s admirers and mentioning her own family. In the concluding moments of her speech, Curtis said:
“And my mother and my father were both nominated for Oscars in different categories. I just won an Oscar.”
Tony Curtis was nominated for best actor in a leading part in 1958 for his work in “The Defiant Ones,” and Janet Leigh was nominated for best actress in a supporting role in 1960 for her role in Alfred Hitchcock’s “Psycho.” Suppose you want more information about Jamie Lee Curtis’s age. In December, Curtis added his voice to the discussion of nepotism sparked by Vulture.com’s series of articles entitled “The Year of the Nepo Baby,” focusing on the advantages enjoyed by celebrities with famous parents.
“There’s not a day in my professional life that goes by without my being reminded that I am the daughter of movie stars,” she wrote at the time, adding that “the current conversation about nepo babies is just designed to try to diminish and denigrate and hurt.”
Actress Jamie Lee Curtis, whose filmography includes Disney’s “Freaky Friday” and “Halloween,” said she was “not in agreement” with the “assumptions and nasty statements that someone connected to someone else who is recognized in their industry for their work, would somehow have no aptitude whatsoever.”
The mother-of-two added: “I have come to learn that is simply not true.” Even at last month’s SAG awards, where she won for best supporting actress in a film, Curtis poked fun at her “Nepo Baby” nickname.
