According to Suzanne Prete, head of the game show division of Sony Pictures Television, which produces the show, the show will continue airing for at least three more seasons following Sajak’s retirement.
She gushed, “We’re thrilled to have him remaining close to the Wheel of Fortune family!”
Vanna White, the show’s beautiful and ever-smiling co-host who has made a career out of switching around the letters on the show’s puzzle board for the better part of four decades, was not discussed.
In May of 2019, she and Sajak marked the 7,000th episode of the show, and White later filled in for Sajak as host while he recovered from emergency intestinal surgery.

Since the show’s premiere in September 1983, Sajak has hosted the nighttime edition of “Wheel of Fortune” on the syndicated television network. However, his history with the game show, which was established by the late TV entertainer and producer Merv Griffin, goes back even longer.
In 1975, Chuck Woolery hosted the daytime version of “Wheel of Fortune” on the NBC network. Sajak took over the daytime show in 1981 and remained there until 1989. He also presided over the evening edition, which was syndicated beginning in 1983.
He has hosted “Jeopardy!” for 37 years, making him the longest-running host of any U.S. television game show, surpassing the 35 years that Bob Barker hosted “The Price is Right” on CBS.
Although “The Price is Right” has been on television longer than any other game show in the United States, “Wheel of Fortune” has been airing without interruption in the United States longer than any other syndicated game show.
“Jeopardy!” is another show that Merv Griffin made. It started in 1964, but there were several years between different syndicated and network versions of the show.
Sajak left the NBC nightly “Wheel” to host his own CBS late-night talk show, which lasted only one season. Sajak was succeeded on “Wheel” by Rolf Benirschke, who was succeeded by Bob Goen when the show relocated from NBC to CBS and back to NBC for a short time.
