Graeme McDowell entered this world on July 30, 1979, in Portrush, County Antrim, Northern Ireland. As a young boy, he began playing golf under the tutelage of his uncle, Uel Loughery, at the Rathmore Golf Club.

McDowell started playing senior cup for Rathmore when he was only 14 years old. Golfing at the University of Alabama at Birmingham followed his time at the Coleraine Academical Institution and Queen’s University in Belfast, where he majored in engineering.
