Bono Early Life.
Bono’s real name is Paul David Hewson, and he was born in Dublin, Ireland, on May 10, 1960. Brendan Robert “Bob” Hewson and Iris Hewson brought him up in the Finglas suburb. Bono lost his mother, Iris, when he was only 14 years old.
As a young man, he was a member of Lipton Village, a surrealist street gang influenced by the likes of David Bowie, Bob Dylan, and Leonard Cohen. U2
In response to a notice posted on the school bulletin board, 16-year-old Bono and his friends eventually created the band U2. David Evans (The Edge) and the Clayton brothers, Dik and Adam, also responded to the ad. In their early jam sessions, the band, then known as Feedback, covered songs by the Rolling Stones and the Beach Boys.
The band eventually stopped covering songs and started writing their own. Bono has been a part of the band in various capacities from its inception, first as a singer, then a guitarist, and finally as a songwriter. In 1977, after being known as Feedback and The Hype, the band changed its name to U2.
In 1980, U2 made a recording contract with Island Records. Their debut singles and albums were commercial failures, and the band even considered disbanding as a result. Before 1983’s “War,” though, U2 hadn’t done much to establish itself as a household name.

Bono has been active in the fight against disease in Africa since he co-founded the group DATA (Debt, AIDS, Trade, Africa) in 2002. This was followed by the widely recognized Project Red. In 2004, Chile’s president presented Bono with the Pablo Neruda International Presidential Medal of Honor.

Personal Life
U2 frontman Bono tied the knot with activist and entrepreneur Alison (Stewart) Hewson in 1982. Jordan and Memphis Eve are their daughters, while Elijah Bob Patricius Guggi Q and John Abraham are their sons. Bono is a devout Christian, and he has remarked that his faith motivates him to do good in the world.
Due to his glaucoma, Bono is rarely seen without his trademark shades. On tour in May of 2010, he was injured in a fall that caused him to fall and crack his spine.
