Arcane, a Netflix series based on the League of Legend and its lore, blew the minds of animation fans in 2021. In 2022, the series won the Emmy for Outstanding Individual Achievement in Animation and established a new standard for animation. This adaptation of a popular video game won nearly every award for which it was nominated, and its many fans have been clamoring for a second season ever since. Riot has already stated that development has begun, but they are remaining extremely mum on any further details.
Riot Games CEO Nicolo Laurent recently mentioned that the company is overwhelmed by the Arcane’s success internally and offered some ideas for the forthcoming series. Season 2 of Riot will not arrive until next year, according to the company’s CEO.
The Release Date For Arcane Season 2 Is Later Than Expected
As reported by Comicbook.com, Riot Games CEO Nicolo Laurent has announced a revised release window for Arcane Season 2, and it’s far later than many fans were probably hoping for. After the success of the League of Legends animated in 2021, Netflix and Riot announced they would be collaborating on a second season of Arcane.
However, no additional news on Season 2 has appeared since that statement, leading many fans to wonder what the heck is going on. Unfortunately, it appears that this information dearth will persist for the rest of the year.
In a recent interview with the LPL’s Guan Ze Yuan, Laurent confirmed that the release of Arcane would not occur before the year 2023. Laurent recently said that he had watched the third episode of Season 2 and was excited about what was happening on the show. However, Laurent made it clear that anyone keen to see more of Arcane for themselves will have to wait until 2024.

When asked about the status of Arcane Season 2, Laurent responded, “It is not ready yet and [there are] two reasons that. One, you want the quality. We just don’t want to rush and so that takes time. So that’s the good reason. The bad reason is, honestly, we didn’t know if Season 1 was going to be a success so we didn’t start Season 2 until [later]. If I had known, we could have started Season 2 way earlier. But we didn’t know so we waited a bit and now we’re paying the price. So, unfortunately, it’s not going to be this year.” You can check the official tweet by Arcane below.

Even though this is disappointing news from Laurent, his account of why Season 2 of Arcane is taking so long makes sense. The only silver lining is that Riot and Arcane are probably already planning for Season 3 if it does happen in the future. This means that the release date for the next season (which has not yet been decided) should be significantly closer to the end of Season 2.
