Despite the fact that the television landscape is more crowded than ever, Fox has revealed that it plans to bring 24 back to television.
Last year, the network announced plans for a prequel series about the early days of action hero Jack Bauer.
Scripts are being handled by original creators Joel Surnow and Robert Cochran, as well as executive producer Howard Gordon, who served as an executive producer on the first season.
What’s in the kitchen? Recently, Fox entertainment president Michael Thorn gave fans an update on the show’s current situation, which was unusual.
At the TCA Summer Press Tour, he said, “We’re open to anything” (via Deadline). “It’s still in its infancy. We’re still working with 20th Century Fox TV and the show’s producers to come up with a new incarnation of the show.
In other words, “there is a strong desire to crack it, we are still discussing it.”
“However we build the franchise, it has to feel big, eventized, and all the creators and producers involved have to feel really excited about that direction and that we all feel we’ve got the right script,” he continued.
At the TCA winter press tour earlier this year, Fox entertainment CEO Charlie Collier also echoed that sentiment.
Because of the franchise’s enduring appeal, “24” will only return if the show’s writers and creators are confident that their story is worthy of honoring the franchise’s legacy, according to the executive producer.
“The power of these franchises is not to be toyed with,” he added (via Deadline).
No new information to report, but I’d be happy to work with Howard and the rest of you on it.
In light of previous mistakes, it is understandable to be wary of reviving a series that has not yet proven itself.
According to Deadline, a prequel spin-off is still in the planning stages.

Assuming this is a prequel, we wouldn’t expect to see Kiefer Sutherland in action. However, in an interview with Lorraine last year, he said that he’s “learned never to say never on 24.”
“We filmed the final season in London, which was something I never expected to do. We did not do 24 again, so I learned to keep my mouth shut about it “he informed me.

Fox co-chairman Gary Newman said, “There are no discussions about whether or not he will have any kind of role” (via Deadline). Executive producer “He’s aware of it and excited about the idea.”
To date, no one has been cast in the role of a precocious Jack Bauer.

Almost no information is available about what will happen in the upcoming series. It’s still unclear whether Fox plans to make a prequel about Bauer’s childhood.

24 Reboot: the Story So Far
It’s not the first time the series has been rebooted. Jack’s return in 24: Live Another Day (also known as season nine/Day Nine) in 2014 was a major moment.
Following the events of season eight, the well-received limited run series took place four years later and saw Jack once again attempting to stop an enormous terror plot while evading capture by the United States.

There was a 24: Legacy (2017) prequel that starred Carlos Bernard as Tony Almeida, but it was cancelled after only one season due to poor ratings.
Ex-Army Ranger Eric Carter (Corey Hawkins) is on a mission to thwart terrorist attacks in the United States and avoid being killed by terrorist leader Sheikh Ibrahim Bin-Khalid and his organisation,
set three years after the events of Live Another Day.
In addition, the network was reportedly working on a “legal thriller” starring a female prosecutor as its protagonist.
Kiefer Sutherland had previously expressed his excitement for the project, saying it was a “really fascinating idea” in an interview with Digital Spy in 2018.
A film adaptation was also considered, but discarded as well.
